Today, I almost died. Or I could have been seriously hurt.
Before I get to that, I’ll tell you about my day.
Today (before I almost died), I shadowed an Occupational Therapist (OT) from Gordon’s church at one of the elementary schools she works at in North York. It’s good experience to be exposed to what different OTs and it’s cool cuz occupational therapy is such a diverse and interesting field. Most of what she did was assess students for their fine/gross motor skills (writing the alphabet, hand-eye coordination activities, etc). This was very different from my experience shadowing Hol at the Spinal Cord Fracture clinic last year.
So anyways, after my day of shadowing, I went to pick up Gordon at his house. He bought a brand new spankin’ bike recently and he’s been pushing me to get back into biking. We grabbed his bike and went back to my place. I agreed that we’d bring my dusty, rusty, bike (which I hadn’t touched for a good 10 years) from my garage and try and revive it. After much WD-40 (thanks Herman), wiping, and finally, adjusting the seat, it was ride-able. We decided to go on a short ride to and back from wal-mart to pick up some stuff.
Yep, we were riding along fine, and had to stop at a red-light at the intersection close to my house. As the light turned green, I rode across the street..
And then I heard a crash. And then another crash.
I only really saw the second crash happen, and watched in slow-motion as the entire back of a bumper flew behind me, and right past Gordon. He told me later on he felt bits of the bumper hit his face.
It turns out that it was a 3-car collision. A green car ran a red-light and T-boned a silver car, which collided and hit a red car in the bumper, tearing off the bumper that almost killed me and Gordon. I’m not sure if I would’ve died from the impact of the flying bumper, but I’m sure it would’ve knocked me off my bike.
Both the green and silver car are totaled.
What a close call.
So is this a sign I shouldn’t go biking?

Only in Malvern, I tell ya, are there such dangerous drivers!
I remember a few years ago, driving home. Getting off the hwy, turning onto Sheppard from Neilson, I was driving east towards Brenyon Way. But as I drove thru the green at the first set of lights after Neilson (3way intersection / small street), I car from that small street came out of nowhere, making a quick left turn onto Sheppard.
The guy almost ran me over, running a big fat RED!
