Stranded

As of 12:01am last night, TTC is on strike. Of course, I wasn’t aware of this, seeing as how it was only announced a couple hours earlier (and I was volunteering at YSM where we didn’t check the news or whatever).

So at around 11:30pm I was waiting on the bus, when suddenly the bus driver tells all of us on the bus to get off - this bus is now out of service. Even though it wasn’t 12:01am yet, they didn’t want to start the route because that meant they would only finish part of the route.

So there I was, alone and stranded. Rex and Mike somehow managed to catch the last bus leaving. GRRR.

Gordon had rode his bike to church so he couldn’t pick me up either. Thankfully my mom was still awake and could give me a ride home.

After riding the VIVA bus with Dorinda on Thursday, I wondered why our TTC sucks so much. The RT has been in need of repair, and you can just tell from many of the subway stations that it’s old and rundown. The VIVA bus tells you at each station what time the next 2 busses are expected to arrive. You can also purchase your ticket at each stop (with credit card, or cash/coins). You’re not expected to show your ticket to the bus driver - it’s an honour system. It’s nice and clean on the bus (no garbage, no loud music playing from some guys stereo or whatnot). The only thing was the A/C didn’t seem to be on, during our bus ride back from York.

I hope that TTC will be back and running on Monday, or else I (along with many thousands) will have to find some other way to get to work.
